![]() Thinning hair is more common than you might think, but it's a problem that isn't often talked about. Thinning hair can happen to women of all ages and lifestyles. If you suffer from thinning hair, here are a few styling tips to give you a great look and more confidence. How To Make Thin Hair Appear Thicker Add Texture One secret to adding volume to your hair is to bring in texture. Thin hair will look limp and lifeless without the visual interest that texture can create. Creating razored ends with a graduated bob is a great way to bring texture to your hair. Adding curls or waves through products or styling tools can also add interest and detract from the thin look. Cut It When dealing with thin hair, a long mane can emphasize the issue. By choosing a short to mid-length style, your hair will have less weight, which will give more natural volume. A shorter cut can also be easier to style with the right tools and products, creating more volume and reducing the effects of thinning. Try an asymmetric bob to draw attention away from the volume of your hair. Create Depth with Color Color creates dimension and dimension makes hair look thicker and fuller. Starting with a dark base and bringing in highlights can give the look of more textured and thick hair. Be sure to have a professional tackle this task, as thin hair is more likely to become damaged from harsh chemicals that often come with hair coloring. Primp with Products With so many volumizing products on the market, there's something for everyone dealing with thin hair. Avoid products, like thick gels, that will weigh your hair down. Instead, opt for lightweight sprays, like the Volumista Mist from Oribe. These products can be applied before blow drying the hair, to help add volume when heat is applied and the hair is styled with a round brush. A lightweight hairspray will help set the look and keep your volume strong throughout the day. Start at the Root of the Problem For some, hair loss or thin hair is genetic. For others, there are outside factors. Some medications, surgery or disorders, like thyroid problems, can cause hair loss. Stress is another major factor that can cause many men and women to notice their hair falling out. While a hair stylist can help with your appearance, seek out a specialist if you notice serious hair loss. Are you concerned about thinning hair?
