With a new season comes a new hair trend. This time, it's the shag and celebrities and trendsetters across the country are running to the salon to get the look. It was one of the top looks at the BTC Cut, Color & Style Show we attended in September.
Here's how to pull it off.
Update Your Summer Lob
The lob may have been the look of the summer, but you can easily transition to the shag for the cooler months.
Your stylist can easily transform your cut by taking weight away on the top and sides of the hair then thinning out the bottom. With a few styling tips, you'll have a whole new look.
Embrace Your Texture
A shag haircut works best for those who already have some texture to their hair. The look is meant to be messy, with lots of layers, and texture adds to the purposely disheveled style.
If your hair is straight and lacking volume, choppy layers can make a shag work. Texturizing spray, like Oribe's, can help as well. Let your hair dry naturally for an organic look.
Make it Modern and Edgy
The shag is perfect for those who want an edgy, rocker style. To get the look, start with a cut with lots of layers. Start with naturally dried hair and re-mist with the Oribe Foundation Mist to give the hair a boost.
Keep it Soft
For a different take on the shag, make it soft and feminine. Have your haircut with layers that frame your face and with long bangs.
When styling your hair, use a sea salt spray to create beachy waves. Let your hair air dry to keep its texture. While it may take some time to style, you'll have a cool and casual look.
Make it Work with Long Hair
Trying out the shag cut doesn't necessarily mean you need to take away your hair's length. Those with long hair can still take part. With long hair, a shag cut can give an otherwise boring look new life. The key, as with short styles, is to have plenty of layers cut. Have you stylist add dimension with color by adding highlights and lowlights.
