![]() You've chosen the perfect shade to take your hair color into the new season. You've made an appointment, met with a stylist and achieved color perfection. Now what? Use the tips below to protect and maintain your hair color, to ensure that your hair will look its best until your next trip to the salon. To protect and prolong your hair color, use Olaplex. Start Before The Salon Protecting hair color starts before you ever make your appointment. In the weeks before, be sure to make your hair as healthy as possible to give your stylist a great base to work with. A few days before your appointment, deep condition your hair for an extra bit of moisture. The day before, shampoo to get rid of any build-up or residue and start with a clean slate. Protect From The Pool This tip is one that we all hear during the summer, but it's just as important going into fall. If you're swimming in a pool, either outside or indoors, protect your hair first. Use a product with SPF to cover your strands and avoid chlorine damage. Wash your hair as soon as possible after leaving the pool to prevent fading. Style With Caution Hair tools that use heat to style can cause major damage to your hair. Blow dryers, straighteners, and curling irons can all cause fading. Try to avoid using heat tools within the first week after having your hair colored. After that, use a heat protecting spray before styling and try to cut down on the number of times you use the tools each week. Check Your Water Can your everyday shower be harming your hair? If you have sediments in your water, the answer is yes. Mineral sediments in water can cause brassiness for those with dark hair and dullness for blondes. Luckily, water filters are inexpensive and will quickly update your shower to give you clean, clear water. Also, be sure to shower with cold water to help encase the moisture in your hair. Skip A Wash After having your hair colored, skip the shampoo for 24 to 48 hours. After that time period, it's still best to not wash your hair every day. Each time you shampoo, your color will fade slightly. Going long between washes, using dry shampoo in between, will help maintain your color for longer. Be sure to choose a gentle, color-friendly shampoo for days that you do wash. Use a sulfate-free shampoo, too. Make Regular Salon Visits Following the tips above will help to protect and extend the life of your hair color. However, no color treatment can last forever. Make regular appointments with your stylist to touch up your color and keep your hair looking on point. Contact the stylists at The Salon by Lora Brown to find your ideal color and update your look.
