A new season means a new hair color. Updating your hair color can help you start the season with a fresh new look and a major confidence upgrade.
Here are a few pro tips for finding your ideal color and achieving a look you'll love.
Learn From Your Past
And no, we're not talking about bad dating experiences!
Have you branched out and tried other hair colors in the past? Learn from your mistakes and triumphs. Look back at photos from over the years to refresh your memory about how different colors looked on you. Sometimes, all it takes is an old social media post to remind you that blonde highlights weren't the best choice or that rich chocolate brown made your blue eyes pop.
Use An App
Yes, there's an app for that! Hair Color is an app that lets you try just about any color your could think of, without making an commitment, other than some space on your iPhone. Just upload a photo of yourself and select a new hair color for a side by side comparison of your current look and potential new look. When you're finished, save the photo and text it to your friends to get a second opinion.
See Real Life Options
If a virtual try-on isn't cutting it, look at your options in real life. Trying on wigs can give you an idea of what you'd look like with a new color and style. If you've been wondering how you'd look with long, glamorous curls or a platinum blonde bob, this is your chance to find out. Be sure to take plenty of pictures to look through later!
Look For Inspiration
Are you meant to be a redhead? Would blonde hair suit your coloring? Is it time to go back to brunette Look for some inspiration to help you narrow down your options. Search for celebrities that share your coloring and features and look for photos of them with different shades.
Salons will often post photo galleries online as well, giving you plenty of pictures to compare. Take your inspiration photos with you to your next hair appointment to share your ideas with your stylist.
Consult Your Stylist
The best way to update your hair is by getting an advice from a pro. Sit down with your stylist to chat about what you're looking for and what colors will work best for you. Your stylist will be able to help you come to a decision and execute your color plan. Make an appointment with the stylists at The Salon by Lora Brown to get started.
Do you dream of full, glamorous hair, but feel stuck with thin and fine strands? There's hope!
Below, we share tips, tricks, and products that can help to bring your hair to life.
1. Love Your Body And Your Scalp
Healthy hair starts with a healthy body. Keeping up with a healthy diet can help your hair grow faster and stay strong. If you're interested in supplements, try Biotin to promote hair health.
Keep the love going by treating your scalp well. Weekly scalp massages feel great and do wonders for releasing pores to make hair follicles happy.
2. Prevent Build Up
Every girl with thin hair is already very familiar with volumizing products. Using the right products is a great way to add volume (we'll get to those later!) but adding too many products can cause build up that will make your hair appear more limp. Use a super cleansing shampoo to remove residue and keep hair clean and healthy.
3. Learn How To Blow Dry
It's true, you may be blow drying your hair incorrectly. The key when drying your hair is to lift the roots. The best way to achieve that is starting with blow drying upside down. This will let you get to the roots and achieve maximum bounce. Be sure to use a heat protecting spray to minimize damage.
4. Use The Right Tools
Not all combs and brushes are created equally. Skip tools that have plastic bristles. Instead, opt for brushes made of natural boar bristles. These brushes are much more gentle on your hair and will give you a smoother look when you're finished drying and brushing. Brushing your hair helps to distribute the hair's natural oils, so find the right tools and get to work.
5. Choose The Right Products
The right products can add volume to even the most lifeless hair. Check out the Magnificent Volume collection from Oribe for a range of products designed to pump up the volume and keep your hair looking great all day. Start with a volumizing shampoo and conditioner that will plump strands without weighing your hair down. Then, use a lightweight mousse or thickening spray when styling.
6. Talk To Your Stylist
Adding volume to your hair starts with a great haircut. Your stylist will be able to add layers, helping your hair to move and giving the appearance of more volume.
To get an expert opinion and a new cut and style for maximum volume, make an appointment at The Salon by Lora Brown today.
You've chosen the perfect shade to take your hair color into the new season. You've made an appointment, met with a stylist and achieved color perfection.
Now what? Use the tips below to protect and maintain your hair color, to ensure that your hair will look its best until your next trip to the salon. To protect and prolong your hair color, use Olaplex.
Start Before The Salon
Protecting hair color starts before you ever make your appointment. In the weeks before, be sure to make your hair as healthy as possible to give your stylist a great base to work with. A few days before your appointment, deep condition your hair for an extra bit of moisture. The day before, shampoo to get rid of any build-up or residue and start with a clean slate.
Protect From The Pool
This tip is one that we all hear during the summer, but it's just as important going into fall. If you're swimming in a pool, either outside or indoors, protect your hair first. Use a product with SPF to cover your strands and avoid chlorine damage. Wash your hair as soon as possible after leaving the pool to prevent fading.
Style With Caution
Hair tools that use heat to style can cause major damage to your hair. Blow dryers, straighteners, and curling irons can all cause fading. Try to avoid using heat tools within the first week after having your hair colored.
After that, use a heat protecting spray before styling and try to cut down on the number of times you use the tools each week.
Check Your Water
Can your everyday shower be harming your hair? If you have sediments in your water, the answer is yes. Mineral sediments in water can cause brassiness for those with dark hair and dullness for blondes.
Luckily, water filters are inexpensive and will quickly update your shower to give you clean, clear water. Also, be sure to shower with cold water to help encase the moisture in your hair.
Skip A Wash
After having your hair colored, skip the shampoo for 24 to 48 hours. After that time period, it's still best to not wash your hair every day. Each time you shampoo, your color will fade slightly. Going long between washes, using dry shampoo in between, will help maintain your color for longer.
Be sure to choose a gentle, color-friendly shampoo for days that you do wash. Use a sulfate-free shampoo, too.
Make Regular Salon Visits
Following the tips above will help to protect and extend the life of your hair color. However, no color treatment can last forever. Make regular appointments with your stylist to touch up your color and keep your hair looking on point.

Learn how you can better the culture at your salon!
Many of us reach for a curling iron each morning to get the coveted beach waves or glamorous, bouncy curls.
However, it's not always as easy as grabbing a wand and creating an effortlessly beautiful look.
Follow our list of do’s and don'ts to achieve curl perfection.
Do start with healthy hair. Strong, shiny hair will give you the best base to make any curled style look its best.
Don't skip the heat protectant products. Especially for those who use straighteners and curling irons on a daily basis, a heat protectant product can make all the difference in keeping your hair healthy.
Do curl one section of hair at a time and clip each section after it's curled. Focusing on one section at a time will prevent some pieces from going uncurled. Pinning each curl will hold it in place while you work and set the curl.
Don't rush. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time for styling if you want to curl your hair the right way. Curling, pinning, and cooling will take some time, but the end result will be well worth it.
Do choose the right tools. Pick a curling iron or wand that's the right size for the look you want to achieve. Remember that different tools will help you to create different looks.
Don't pull sections that are too big to be clipped. You don't want any stray pieces falling down. Go through your hair, small section by small section, taking your time to get the best possible outcome.
Do run your fingers through your hair after it's cooled. Breaking up the strands a bit will make your hair look more natural.
Don't break up the curls with your fingers too soon. Wait for the hair to cool down completely before separating curls or they'll fall and you'll be back to the hair you started with.
Do finish with a flexible hold hairspray. A light layer will keep curls in place and cut down on frizz throughout the day, without weighing your hair down.
Don't work at the wrong temperature. Thicker hair can hold up against higher heat settings, but thinner hair is more easily damaged. Dial down the heat if you're hair doesn't have a lot of thickness or texture.
Do make an appointment with a great stylist to get your hair looking healthy and beautiful before you curl. Your stylist will be able to get your hair into shape and show you techniques to use at home.

By the end of summer, most of us could use a hair refresh. After months of sun damage and using products to get the perfect beach waves, hair can start to look dull and unhealthy.
A visit to your stylist and a new color can bring it back to life. Try out one of fall's most popular colors to stay on trend.
Top Hair Colors For Autumn 2016
When summer is over many people, including celebs like Jennifer Hudson and Adriana Lima, are opting to go far from beach blonde by choosing black hair. Add depth and warm it up by opting for a shade of brown black, rather than a cooler jet black.
A full head of dark black hair isn't for everyone. Keep your color on the warm side and add some interest with auburn highlights. Check out Kim Kardashian's Instagram for a look at her hint of red hair.
The beautiful thing about adding red to brunette hair is that it works on almost everyone, as your stylist can choose warm or cool tones to play with.
For those less willing to let go of the warm summer months, rose gold is the perfect transition to fall. If you've already gone blonde for summer, it's easy to add a bit of dark pink color to warm things up. The updated, trendy color looks good on a range of skin tones while creating a cool, but not too crazy look.
If you've opted to keep your darker shade throughout the summer, check out bronde shades on celebrities like Selena Gomez. Bronde is cross between blonde and brown. The color starts with a deep brown base, but is lightened up with warm caramel highlights. The dimension created by the highlights looks perfect with big, glamorous waves.
With the rise of the ombre trend came the acceptance of embracing dark roots. The trend is sticking around this fall as celebrities like Chrissy Teigen are choosing dark roots and light hair. In Chrissy and Khloe Kardashian's cases, the color comes with the super popular lob haircut, making this style even more on trend for the season.

September is one of the most popular times for weddings.
Whether you’re preparing for a the biggest event of your life — your wedding day — or another special event, the makeup you choose has a huge impact on your overall look.
The right makeup can make you feel like a queen, but the wrong colors can give the appearance of trying too hard.
If you’re in need of makeup inspiration, look no further than the runway. Here are some of the latest trends that were seen on gorgeous models this year.
The Natural Look
More and more brides are craving that fresh, natural appearance for their wedding day. But very few women can successfully achieve this look without the use of makeup. The trick to this trend is to create skin that glows, barely flushed cheeks, and lips that look like they've just been kissed.
To get the no-makeup look, first make sure your skin is clean, exfoliated, and moisturized. Next, use a light foundation or tinted moisturizer to hide imperfections. Then softly brush blush onto just the apples of your cheeks. Finish it off with a nude lip color.
Lip gloss often gets negative reviews, but the right product can give your lips a luminous, shiny, and irresistible appearance. Lip gloss, especially pink, is all the rage on the runway this season.
To make the most of your gloss, start with a sugar scrub to remove any dead skin from your lips. After that, apply lipstick or lip stain. Followed that with a layer of gloss in the same (or similar) color. Avoid sparkles or metallics, since these make you look like you’re back in junior high.
If you thought winged eyeliner was just for those crazy Saturday nights, think again. When done right, eyeliner with a winged effect radiates elegance. The look works especially well with pale pink shades of blush and lip color.
One important note: Don’t attempt the winged eyeliner method on your own without first practicing — repeatedly.
The Ombre Lip
Sometimes we try to avoid overly trendy looks for special occasions. After all, these are days that will go down in history — at least, social media history. With hundreds of photos inevitably to be taken, you don’t want to look back on your special day and regret following a certain makeup trend.
Though an ombre lip could be considered trendy, the idea of red lipstick is classic. With the right product, this subtle crimson shade screams glamour, especially when combined with the gorgeously timeless Old Hollywood hair waves.
No matter which makeup trend you choose, you want your special event to be perfect. Our talented stylists can create beautiful bridal and special event hair. Make your appointment with The Salon by Lora Brown today.

The Color Stage
Speakers and industry leaders will take the stage over the course of the event, sharing their personal stories and offering advice to those in attendance. Combined, the teams boast years of experience in the industry and have worked with celebrity clients all over the world.
The Cut & Style Stage

Enjoying The Extras
In addition to the advice and lessons that stylists will receive from the speakers on stage, there are plenty of other opportunities to grow professionally and network at the event. The event schedule includes plenty of time at the Connection Center. In the Connection Center, sponsors will be demonstrating techniques and showing off products.
BTC is an excellent chance for stylists to learn about new colors, cuts, and styles. One way to gather information is with Formula Cards. Offered in the Connection Center, the cards feature a photo of a particular look, as well as a how to for creating the look at the home salon. Collecting the cards throughout the event will leave stylists with a library of styles to offer clients when the three day event is over.
