Bangs can update a hairstyle and help accentuate the best features of your face. Yet sometimes bangs can have a mind of their own. So if you want to keep your bangs looking their best, try these simple styling tips.
Blow dry your bangs properly. Your bangs will dry more rapidly than the rest of your hair, and letting them dry naturally may cause them to take an unusual shape. Tame your bangs by blow drying them right away on high heat to keep them in the right direction.
Use the right brush. When drying your bangs, be sure to use a round bristle brush so that each strand is grabbed during the process. You can use the brush to pull your bangs straight and even give them a slight under curl to achieve some height.
When you can’t blow dry, do the twist. If you are in a hurry and blow drying your front locks isn't an option, twist them to have them dry in the right direction. Start by taking small sections and twist the pieces outward, leaving them alone until they dry.
Iron them out. For a quick style fix, a small flat iron will put your bangs back into position and tame any unruly flyaways. Flat irons are a great tool for in between shampoos, as well.
Prepare for bad weather. On days when the weather is less than ideal for your bangs, pinning them to the side will help them keep their shape as well as minimize frizzing. If you are going out in a hat, try a few spritzes of product, such as Oribe’s Superfine hairspray, that will keep your bangs in place and reduce static buildup to prevent the dreaded hat hair.
Use the best product for your bangs. When choosing a product, be sure it is not heavy or thick so it does not weigh down your hair or make it look too greasy. It is best to stick with gels or mousses to shape since they are applied by hand and you will have more control with the style. To alleviate frayed ends, add wax to the bottom edges.
Rely on a professional. While it may seem simple enough to give your bangs a trim, it is probably not the best idea. Leave the maintenance to a stylist who will know the best cut to use for your hair type and face shape.
